A friend once told me that when a new neighbor moves in, she and her husband go over to their house to introduce themselves. They give their new neighbors their cell phone numbers in case that need anything. They also do something else that I find incredible: they give their new neighbors a key to their house. My friend said to their new neighbors, “If we ever lose our key, we know that you have one, but we also want you to know that our home is your home. And we mean it when we say that we are here for you.”
How would that make you feel if you were that new neighbor? Pretty amazing right?!
Next door to Fair Haven in what used to be an old cornfield, the doors are about to open for the new Jenison Early Childhood Center* (ECC). We’ve got new neighbors moving in!
The first day of school is August 28, where around 1000 kids, teachers, and school administrators will make their way there for the first day in the new ECC building. That’s one big family moving in next door!
Now, back to my friend. Could we make our new “ECC neighbors” feel as welcome as my friend made her new neighbors feel? Well, we’re going to try!
I want to invite you all to join us for an hour in the morning on their first day of school. We are going to form a tunnel from the curb to the front doors to welcome students into the building with high-fives, cheers, and smiles. We want to celebrate each kid that walks into that building to let them know that they are loved by their neighbors. So check out the details below and join us!
Here are the details:
- Time: Tuesday, August 28 from 8-9am
- Park: in Fair Haven’s parking lot and walk over.
- Meet: outside near the main entrance of Jenison ECC. School starts at 8:50am, so this will give us a minute to gather and then set up to welcome our new neighbors.
Mark your calendar and we’ll see you there!
