If you know me, you’ve probably heard me say that Sunday is my favorite day of the week. There is nothing like when the church gathers together to worship God and I love that on Sunday mornings we get to come together as a family to sing.
I recently read an article titled, “5 Reasons Why People Who Sing Are Happier, Healthier and Live Longer (Regardless of How Well They Sing)”. I was super intrigued in what the article said. It stated that 85% of us were told long ago that we cannot sing and that we should never open our mouths in public. What a mistake! A couple years ago, I asked a friend if he sings. He responded with, “Yes I do. I sing solo. So low that no one can hear me.” I thought that was pretty funny, but research shows that people who sing are happier, live longer and are generally much healthier too. Isn’t that pretty cool?
Music is an important part of worship and praise to God. God created us to be instruments with the ability to sing and make music. So, as we head to church on Sunday – overworked, stressed, struggling with health, or whatever we might be dealing with – let us come with repentance and thanksgiving to the One who has created us, forgiven us and who lives within us. How can we not sing?
