Fall is upon us which means a lot of different things for various people groups. It’s back to school for kids, which is a celebration for some parents and bittersweet for others. It’s getting back into some regular rhythms and routines for families after a summer of late nights. Fall sports and all the fun and busyness that being the taxi and cheerleader can bring! Still, for others, it’s counting the days before heading south for the winter, with many other scenarios in between.
Here at Fair Haven, there’s a buzz in the air that comes with fall. It involves a new season of exciting and impactful programming for kids, students, Monday night ministries, Kids Hope and more. These things wouldn’t happen without a committed team of partners and I’m compelled to express gratitude! So thank you to the hundreds of volunteers that live out the mission each week to welcome those near and far from God into a place where they can belong. A place where someone can have a great cup of coffee and share their story, use a clean bathroom, trust us with their children, feel supported as they raise teenagers, worship authentically and discover who God is.
We desire to be a church where nobody sits on the sidelines, everybody is engaged in the mission, and ownership of our collective ministry is high. All of this is for one purpose; to help people find their way back to God, and we do it out of gratitude for what Jesus has done in our lives. When we asked a student volunteer recently what difference Christ has made in their life and why they serve, they answered, “He died for me and I love Him!” That pretty much says it all, don’t you think?
